It is important for students to remember that college is not high school. Every person who attends college made a conscientious decision to be there. It is not mandated like high school. Your successes and failures are your own. This simply means that you are an adult now and the responsibilities of college are much more than high school. There is no one to tell you when you need to study, when to go to class or when to go to bed. So here are some tips to help you stay focused and succeed in college.
Set yourself some goals to work toward every term. This gives you something to work forward to and will help you stay motivated. Working toward the end of the class is not proper motivation. This is why it is good ideas to choose a career that you enjoy learning about. Otherwise, you are wasting not only your time but your professor’s as well.
When you are in class keep your phone off and have nothing with you but the materials required for that class. Always ask questions if you do not understand what is being discussed. The professor will be happy to answer it and you will have a better understanding of the subject. Make several friends in each of your classes. If you ever need notes, a lab partner or to form a study group then you will already have set up the means to do that.
Establish a routine when it comes to studying. Everyone works better when on a schedule. By doing this you are becoming more disciplined and that helps you stay focused. It prepares you for whatever comes up in class including pop quizzes.
