Pros And Cons Of Homeschooling Children

If you are thinking about homeschooling your children you should examine a few pros and cons.  Sometimes it is a no-brainer for parents.  Parents, who because of religious reasons or who dislike the routine of public schools, often find it an easy decision, parents who work or want their child to experience lessons learned through public school attendance may pause at the thought of homeschooling their children.  Let’s look at some pros and cons to help your decision.

One of the top pros of homeschooling is obviously the freedom it gives a family.  You and your child are not ruled by schedules revolving around strict lesson plans or school activities.  Without having to get up early and planning around school calendars, parents find themselves being able to do things according to what their wants and needs are.  You do not have to worry about bullies, esteem issues, or being in a potentially harmful situation.  It also allows you to incorporate your religious and moral values into the child’s learning.  And probably the best pro for kids is no homework.

Some of the cons to homeschooling can be pretty obvious too.   If you are a family of two working parents, the loss of that second income can hurt a family’s budget.  Not only that, but it takes a whole day sometimes to get through hands on learning.  This can be very draining for the parent who is doing the teaching.  You are with your children every minute of every day with very little you time during the day.

It is important for you to know that your decision should be based on your family’s needs, not because people tell you not to homeschool your children.
