Traditional education is losing its footing, as the dynamic of the education system continues to change. Over the past ten years or so, learning has changed drastically.

Learning Has Become More Global

Online learning has become a major part of our education today. More people, even children, are learning online rather than in the traditional classroom setting, which offers more flexibility and convenience than ever before.

Being that more classes are being offered online, learning is becoming more global. Students are working with others all around the world. This especially holds true in college classes, such as what are offered by UMUC. Global learning enables more international connections to be made. It used to be that study groups would only consist of people from one country. Now study groups consist of individuals all over the world.

Teaching Methods Have Changed

Teaching methods have changed to accommodate the changes in the education system. These new teaching methods are designed to engage students in an online classroom. Teachers create lessons that students can do at their own pace, and message boards and chat rooms are used for discussion.

Collaborative Learning Has Become the Focus

Collaborative learning is now the focus of today’s education system. It used to be that before, students would work individually. Now, the focus is on getting students to work together and contribute their own skills to the group. More and more tasks are group centered, and such tasks causes the students to work on communication skills and better develop the necessary skills to work together as a team. The collaborative learning approach is excellent because it enables students to be better prepared to function out in the real world outside of school

The changes in our education system are definitely for the better. Students have more options than ever before.
